Student Visa for Studying in Germany

International students must apply for a student visa before arriving in Germany. You can apply through the German embassy or consulate in your home country. Two main visa types are available:

Prospective Student Visa: Ideal for students awaiting university admission. It is valid for 3 months and extendable by 6 months. Once admitted, you can apply for a residence permit.
Student Visa: Once you receive your university acceptance letter, you can apply for this visa. It is initially valid for 3 months.

Visa fee: €60 to €75, depending on the exchange rate and your country of application.

Health Insurance for Students in Germany

Health insurance is mandatory, and proof must be submitted during enrollment. Monthly premiums range between €110 and €190, depending on factors such as age, pre-existing conditions, and level of study. Types of Student Insurance: –

Public Insurance: Typically costs around €105–€110 per month and offers comprehensive coverage. Most international students are eligible.
Private Insurance: Required for students in language or preparatory courses who are not eligible for public insurance. This usually costs between €30 and €50 per month.
